European Market at King’s

We celebrated the ‘European Day of Languages’ with a special ‘European Market’. Each class chose a European country and produced a food and a craft item connected with that particular country; choices included truffles from Belgium, fans from Spain, ice cream cakes from Italy, bracelets from Greece, cheese straws from the Netherlands, Viking hats from Norway and gingerbread men from Germany.

Children were given Euro play money and a shopping bag. After browsing what’s on offer, they had to decide which five items they would like to buy. All shopping dialogues had to be spoken in German.

The children had a lot of fun using their skills in an indoor ‘European Market’. The afternoon was enjoyed by all!

Erster Schultag! – First Day at School!

Reception children enjoyed a special treat on their very first day of school! They received a so called ‘Zuckertüte’ or ‘Schultüte’, which is a cone filled with little goodies. It is a German tradition that the very first day of school is marked in a special way. Our children were delighted and can’t wait to start their daily German lessons.

Year 3s visited the German School in Richmond

All Year 3 children went to the ‘Deutsche Schule’ in Richmond to take part in a German school day. After splitting up into different classes and getting to know each other, everyone enjoyed a active hunt around the school where questions had to be answered. A lot of German speaking skills were used and the children got on really well with each other. We enjoyed lunch and had some time to play. A fantastic day! Vielen Dank!
